Run with your heart

So the past couple years I have gotten extremely into being healthy, in every way. I am a long distance runner and occasional weight lifter. I have educated myself on how to be healthy and fit, and it has become my lifestyle. My friends and family have always told me I should find a way to help others who struggle with committing to a healthy lifestyle, but I never got the courage to do so.

Last week I woke up and decided to make an Instagram account solely for my passion for running and eating healthy. I post motivational quotes, recipes and personal fitness photos. So far I have had people reach out to me and tell me how helpful it has been to them. What a great feeling, to help and inspire people! I think being able to see a person you are close to make a huge change in their lives is helpful in taking the first step. Sure, you can follow those popular fitness accounts, but it’s a lot less personal since you don’t know who the people are in the photos.

If you happen to come to my blog and need a bit of extra motivation, or just tips on how to get healthier, follow my Instagram @runwithyour_heart. I’m looking forward to seeing how many people I can impact!

Weekend getaway to CT

This past weekend my mom and I drove up to West Hartford, CT to visit my aunt and my new baby cousin, Ava. While visiting my family, my boyfriend drove from Massachusetts since it was only a couple hours away. This was a great opportunity since we are doing long distance.

The entire weekend consisted of me playing with Ava. She is too cute for words! I became super close with her and found it hard to be separated!!

Luckily, I brought my Garmin watch so I got some good running time in, early in the mornings. Thankfully my boyfriend sleeps in a bit while on vacation… ! My aunt showed me some good routes and I ran between 4&6 miles each day.

On Saturday, we went to the park to let Ava swing on the swings for a bit. After the park, we let Ava try Rita’s Italian Ice for the first time!

I think she liked it…

That night, my boyfriend and I set off into The Center of West Hartford. We went to a restaurant called Bartaco. Delicious tacos I must say. It was great getting the chance to spend time with my family and boyfriend. I can’t wait for the next time!

New Subie and two 5ks

Last Thursday my friend Dom and I did a 5k race together. The race was in Hamilton at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. It was called Strides for Stroke and the money benefitted the cause. I was determined to beat my 5k time, and I successfully did! I came in 2nd for females between the age of 22&24 and received a medal for the accomplishment. My overall time was 22:12. I was extremely happy and proud.

This past weekend I made the trek to
PA for a weekend getaway with my mom. My graduation gift from my dad was a new car of my choice which arrived at W&L Subaru, where I interned during college.

We stayed at my mom’s friend, Marlene’s house. We headed to Catawissa around dinner time on Friday night and got there around 9:30PM. Once we got there, Marlene treated us with a delicious pinenut caramel shortbread cookie which greatly satisfied my sweet tooth! I headed to bed shortly after the great because I had to get up for the Ta Ta Trot 5k in Sunbury. I signed up for the race when I knew I would have to pick up my car because my co-workers were participating as well.

The next morning I woke up around 5:30 to do yoga with Marlene. I have never done a full yoga routine, so this was definitely a fun experience for me. Not to mention it really stretched me out before my race.

After yoga, my mom and I drove to Sunbury for the last time in my old Santa Fe. The Ta Ta Trot was a race dedicated to fighting breast cancer. The amount of energy at the race was incredible! There were 2,500 runners and everyone was dressed in pink and super energetic. I love races mostly because of all the positive energy. I completed the 3.1 miles in a time of 21:35, creating a new personal record. I came in 2nd again for my age group and received a medal!

Following the race, we went to W&L Subaru to pick up my brand new 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. I fell in love instantly! It is a beautiful car and I could not be happier.

VA & DC for the Fourth

Last Friday I took a train and headed down to beautiful Washington, DC. I had planned to go for the fourth to visit two of my close friends from school, Brodie and Nancy. Brodie works in VA doing an internship for the summer. It was truly one of the best weekends I’ve had this summer so far, but so bittersweet since I hadn’t seen them since early May and only got two days to reunite.

On Friday night we took the Metro into DC and had the opportunity to watch fireworks over the Lincoln Memorial. It was breathtaking. I have never had such a fun time watching fireworks.

Since I haven’t been to DC since high school, we went down to visit The Mall. I got to see all the memorials and it was a beautiful day, full of walking.

Saturday night at midnight, Sunday in reality, Brodie was turning 21. We had a blaaaaast celebrating. The night ended in delicious pizza and a day of sleeping in.

Boston, MA adventures

So I haven’t blogged in a while since I’ve been so busy. Last Thursday I left NJ and headed to Boston, MA to visit my boyfriend for the weekend. Zac Brown Band was performing at Fenway on Friday night, so we decided to get tickets!

Since a Peter has a full time job, all day Thursday and Friday I had a lot of free time. I took full advantage of this and used his gym in the basement. I was able to get 14 miles in on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, Peter joined me at the gym, and I got a good 10k in plus weight lifting. After working out, we decided to head to Hampton, NH for a beach day. We played lots of paddle ball!

That night, we went into Boston for sushi and a night of shopping! The weekend was so much fun. Doing a long distance relationship is difficult, but when you love someone so much, distance doesn’t matter. I’m just happy to be lucky enough to have someone that saying goodbye to is so hard.
